Photo Gallery: Vermont Street at 20th Street
Lombard Street is one of the major tourist draws in San
Francisco because of its many switchbacks. There is another street which has
more switchbacks - Vermont Street, between 19th and 20th Streets.
Approaching from 20th Street, one encounters a much more challenging drive,
as the road makes at least 8 turns over the course of about 1/2 block. This
area is not as famous because it's farther away from the rest of the city
and is not landscaped as beautifully as Lombard. McKinley Square is at the
top (20th Street) end.
Located right next to the 101 Freeway, it is best served by
car, but can be easily reached via MUNI bus route 53 and a short walk from
route 19. Across the freeway (via footbridge) one can walk to Potrero Ave,
and the 9 and 33 routes.
