Photo Gallery: Haralson Mill Covered Bridge and Historic District

The first bridge of its kind to be built in the State of Georgia since the late 1890s, this covered wooden bridge replaces a historic ford and emulates a covered bridge design similar to the 1820s era Town Lattice Truss design patented by Connecticut architect Ithiel Town. The bridge is surrounded by the Haralson Mill House, a general store, the old mill site, and a blacksmith shop.

From www.n-georgia.com:

Rockdale County Bridge (formerly known as Haralson Mill Bridge) is in Conyers, Georgia. Georgia's latest covered bridge isn't historic, but exemplifies the interest the public still has in covered bridges. Originally designed as a pre-stressed concrete bridge, county planners decided to make this bridge a landmark, adding a large wooden superstructure and rock facing to the underlying concrete bridge. Total cost of the redesigned bridge: $880,000. Concerned about the possibility of fire, this bridge is equipped with cameras, smoke detectors, and a sprinkler system.  For more information, the city of Conyers has a page about the bridge on their website.
